60s Girl Group Rock Album Released 45 Years Later

Joan Sliwin Glasser and Alex Sliwin Collins, half of the '60s girl group Honey Ltd., have been performing oldies, big band, cabaret, originals and more as a duo and as solo acts. Suddenly last summer, their 1968 Honey Ltd. album was reissued.

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Sept. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Growing up in Detroit, the four members of the singing group Honey Ltd, Laura Polkinghorne, Marsha Jo Temmer and sisters Joan and Alexandra Sliwin were friends in college at Wayne State. They formed a group they called Mama Cats and performed in clubs and recorded with rock icons Bob Seger and Glenn Frey of the Eagles. In 1968 the four gals took a trip to Los Angeles and were signed by record company honcho and performer Lee Hazlewood on first audition. They recorded many of their own original songs and a few standard rock hits. The sound? Angelic harmony, something like ABBA. Singles they recorded were woven into an album, but the girls never received a copy, and only in the past few years did they know it really existed. They saw it sold on music sites for $2,000 and more as collectors' items.

Honey Ltd. toured Viet Nam and Thailand with Bob Hope's Christmas Tour in 1968, and appeared on Ed Sullivan, Jerry Lewis, and many other prime time shows and well as opening in Las Vegas for Eddie Fisher.

The four stayed together for a while, with success but not the joy of a number one hit. They went separate ways doing studio recording, touring and backing up such luminaries as Billy Joel, Loretta Lynn, and Kid Rock. Alex and Joan in Florida remain close friends to this day with the other two gals who are still in California.

As Like Honey, Alex and Joan have been entertaining audiences in clubs, restaurants, for large community festivities, at concerts and for private parties in South Florida for the past decade or so with their stylish and engaging  nostalgic duo and solo acts that encompass the '40s standards, and their own original songs, as well as rock, pop and soul.

All four from the original Honey Ltd. were shocked to learn the album was going to be released this past July by Light in the Attic, an independent record label established in 2002 in Seattle, Wash., by Matt Sullivan. It is known for its roster of reissue projects, and for its distribution catalog.
