Local company partners with Team RWB Albany to help businesses hire veterans

Selkirk New York, September 25, 2013, veterans and spouses can build connections for greater opportunities at the Capital Region Veterans Job Fair “with a twist” presented by Squared Away Event Planners and Team RWB Albany.

ALBANY, N.Y. - Aug. 30, 2013 - PRLog -- Candidates will meet local business representatives who are seeking veterans to join their team and receive valuable guidance from our community partners. As a veteran, I understand they are at a disadvantage because they are not connected to a professional community.  The Job Fair for Veterans and Spouses will give them the opportunity to begin their journey.  Our guests can engage in a “soft interview” with a prospective business by communicating their skills and employment history in a relaxed social environment.

We need to be proactive and involved to draw veterans into the workforce which begins by developing their professional network.  LinkedIn is a great platform for veterans to connect with businesses and other veterans.  I began a LinkedIn Group: Veterans Connect - New York Capital Region (http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Veterans-Connect-New-York-Capital-5134444/about) offering a proactive way for veterans and businesses to connect in the New York Capital Region.  During the Job Fair, our guests will have an opportunity to receive a free edited photo from a local business “Pic By Murphy” to enhance their online professional profile.

Also, veterans will have an opportunity to be inspired and motivated by local author Robert Clancy who will share inspirational stories from his acclaimed new books, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Soul & Daily Downloads and Fortune Cookies form the Universe. Through thought-provoking excerpts and open dialogue, experience how volunteerism, community service and a compassion for humanity can help shape your career, bring deeper meaning to your life path and enlighten your soul!

Later, veterans can enjoy hors d'oeuvres while networking with each other to build connections for greater opportunities.

These local community organizations will be present our Job Fair to increase awareness of resources available for veterans: NYS Department of Labor, Albany Stratton VA Medical Center (VA Women’s Program and the Veterans Service Center), The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, Capital District Women's Employment & Resource Center (WERC), US Small Business Administration, and Stars for Our Troops.

The event begins at 10:00am, Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Mansion at Cedar Hill, 1016 River Road, Selkirk, New York (six miles from downtown Albany or exit 22 off NYS Thruway).
