All can agree, it’s been a tough summer for young black boys and men across the country albeit globally. The case of Trayvon Martin and the thousands of young lives that have been lost in urban cities across America due to gun violence – Chicago alone has had over 250 homicides as of this month; there is a need for more to be done. TheBlackManCan Institute is designed to uplift, empower, educate and motivate young men of color, answering the cry for a response to the lingering challenges Black boys and men face nationally. Brandon Frame is a notable author, scholar, educator and newsmaker who was just named one of Hartford’s “40 Under 40”, has always felt compelled to give-back, something instilled in him while attending the prestigious Morehouse College in Atlanta. Brandon shares, “I want TheBlackManCan Institute to touch the lives of boys and men around the world. My hope for the work I do is to be more successful in combating the negative images of Black men and boys with which we're bombarded on a daily basis.” Boys of Color attending TheBlackManCan Institute can be assured that their cultural needs will be addressed and they will be free to express themselves while fostering brotherhood. Powerful workshops and keynote speakers will empower and educate young men in attendance. All young men attending the Institute will receive ties and a copy of Brandon’s debut title, Define Yourself, Redefine the World: A Guided Journal for Black Boys and Men , which is now available at Baltimore City College curriculum for their African-American men’s program and is being used as a therapeutic starting point for empowerment, self-love, and forward progress for young males.
