YUMA, Ariz. - Aug. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- While it is often difficult to quantify the value of professional certification, it is without a doubt beneficial to one’s professional career.  That is the message being delivered to students preparing to enter the safety profession at colleges and universities across the nation.

Students are learning about safety certifications from professors, faculty and career guidance professionals at leading colleges and universities that understand the need to prepare the next generation of safety managers for the real world.  Helping to get this message out to students and educators is the Institute for Safety and Health Management (ISHM).

“Transitioning from a learning environment to the working world can be a challenge for some students who have not researched what it takes to land the type of job in safety management that will propel their career for years to come,” said Larry Curtis, CSHM, Executive Director of ISHM.  “To help students position themselves to get these types of jobs, the ISHM is offering a special program for graduating safety students and recent college graduates to become certified.”

The ISHM administers the internationally recognized Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) certification and the Associate Safety and Health Manager (ASHM) and Certified Safety Management Practitioner (CSMP) programs for safety professionals and safety managers. To assist students in the safety management field who are entering the profession, ISHM is now offering two unique programs to help them become certified.

Recent graduates of ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited college and university programs and those from additional ISHM Board approved bachelors and higher education programs now have two special programs tailored to their needs.  Qualified graduates now have the opportunity to apply for the Associate Safety and Health Manager program with no application fee and a streamlined process.  ISHM is also reducing the 5 years of experience required to sit for the Certified Safety and Health Manager certification to just 2 years for qualified applicants.
