-- Chiropractors “work with the body to bring about healing,” says Dr. Willena Brooks (http://www.chirocare4women.com)
, a Columbus, Ohio chiropractor who specializes in chiropractic care for women. Her clinic cares for women exclusively.
Many people still believe that chiropractic care is only used to treat spinal issues, such as back pain. That belief is quickly dispelled by chiropractors like Dr. Brooks. “Chiropractic care is believed to affect the central nervous system. When you look at it that way, there’s no way to really determine the limit of what chiropractic can help with,” she says.
Even conditions that are the result of repetitive movement can be helped by chiropractic care. Rather than utilizing drug therapy to treat the symptoms of a condition, chiropractic care seeks to address the causes of those conditions. Carpal tunnel syndrome, for instance, responds very readily to chiropractic care. “Health comes from above down, and from inside out,” says Dr. Brooks. She recommends chiropractic treatment as part of a system that involves the partnership of the practitioner with the natural healing processes of the body. Dr. Willena Brooks often recommends natural or organic-based supplements, and also advises on nutritional and other lifestyle adjustments to expedite the natural processes of the body.
Chiropractic treatments are also beneficial during pregnancy. As the pregnancy progresses, the increasing weight and size of the abdomen affects the center of gravity of the female body. This shifts the mother’s spine and skeletal structure, causing pain. Since chiropractic care treats the nervous system through a series of adjustments to the spine and other joints, pain symptoms are often relieved. The frequency of visits depends on the individual and the underlying reasons for her visit. Once the major complaint is resolved, Dr. Brooks may recommend fewer visits, or even treat her patients on a will-call basis. Women have attributed an easier birth to chiropractic care, and even said that chiropractic treatments helped to shorten their delivery times.
Dr. Brooks says that women are the majority when it comes to seeking chiropractic treatment. “Women have to push through whatever they need to push through to complete what needs to get done,” she says. She encourages a friendly atmosphere at her clinic, and women are encouraged to interact and get to know each other in the reception area. She enjoys having the kind of practice that provides that kind of support and loves that aspect of her practice.
Dr. Willena Brooks is the only chiropractor in Columbus, Ohio who provides chiropractic and wellness services exclusively for women.
