House of Harley-Davidson’s 110 Military Appreciation Day to Benefit Fisher House WI August 28

House of Harley-Davidson Hosts Fourth Annual Benefit Motorcycle Ride for Families of Wounded Veterans on August 28, 2013 as part of 110 Celebration

MILWAUKEE - Aug. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- MILWAUKEE (August 26, 2013) – Fisher House Wisconsin, a non-profit dedicated to building Wisconsin’s first Fisher House facility at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, is the benefactor of Military Appreciation Day to be hosted at the House of Harley-Davidson on Wednesday, August 28th 2013.  

 

Registration will start at 9:00am at the House of Harley-Davidson, 6221 West Layton Ave – Milwaukee, WI  53220.  A pancake breakfast will be served from 7:30am-11:00am at the dealership.  The 110 Anniversary – Military Appreciation Day activities will include military vehicle displays, United States Marine Corps Indoor Simulated

Marksmanship Trainer (ISMT), a flyover by the Wisconsin Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, along with a special ceremony to kick off the benefit ride.  The police-escorted motorcycle ride will depart the House of Harley-Davidson at 2:00 pm and conclude at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.  A brief ceremony at the Milwaukee VA Medical center will honor our military and veterans for their service.  Event information:  http://houseofharley.com/en/events/august-28-military-day

 

Special guests in attendance include Wisconsin Commander-In-Chief of the Wisconsin Army and Air National Guard, Governor Scott Walker, the Adjutant General for Wisconsin’s Army and Air National Guard Major General Donald Dunbar and Major General (Retired) John Borling.  MG Borling was a fighter pilot in Vietnam, eventually spending 6 1/2 years as a Prisoner Of War (POW) in the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” after being shot down during a combat mission.  His newly released book, Taps on the Walls: Poems from the Hanoi Hilton will be sold at the House of Harley-Davidson as part of Military Appreciation Day events.

 

“With more than one third of Harley-Davidson riders being present or former military, it’s natural for riders and enthusiasts to support the construction of Fisher House Wisconsin,” said John Schaller, owner of the House of Harley Davidson.  “The Fisher House Ride on August 28 will be a visible reminder of the bond between Harley-Davidson and the United States Military, and the House of Harley-Davidson is honored to do our part in this year’s ride activities linked to the 110th celebration.”
