THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Aug. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Thousand Oaks, CA —  Conejo Awards and its’ President, Tammie Helmuth, announced today that it has been named the 2013 Spirit of Small Business Award winner for the East Ventura County area. Honoring “individuals and businesses who put it on the line every day” by The Pacific Coast Business Times, the Spirit of Small Business Award is a leading award honoring excellence in small business and entrepreneurship in the Tri-Counties. Presented by The Business Times and Los Angeles District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration, selection for the Spirit of Small Business Award begins with individual nominations that are reviewed and narrowed down to several finalist by The Business Times and its special report staff. The winners are chosen based on how well they meet the requirements of showing a record of success, proven ability to overcome adversity, community commitment, and must employ 100 or fewer employees.  

Tammie Helmuth, President of Conejo Awards feels “honored and taken back” after receiving the Spirit of Small Business Award. “I was completely shocked to find out that I had won such a prestigious award just doing what I do everyday, and doing it well” Helmuth said. Helmuth was awarded for her company’s ability “to survive in tough times, its history of creating jobs and consistent growth, and its contribution to the community”, said The Pacific Coast Business Times.

Prior to her nomination and subsequent win of the Spirit of Small Business Award, Helmuth has been further recognized for her community involvement and service in both the Ventura and Thousand Oaks Rotary Clubs. Helmuth is “widely known in the community for her charitable fund-raising and service on governing boards, from the Thousand Oaks Business Roundtable and the Police Charitable Foundation, to a new job as chairperson for Girl Scouts of America Central Coast” said The Pacific Coast Business Times.  Nominated by husband and business partner, he described Helmuth as “the true definition of a leader to inspire, lead and support small business.”

Helmuth and fellow 2013 Spirit of Small Business Award winners were honored and recognized for their accomplishments in small business and entrepreneurship at this year’s awards ceremony on Thursday, August 15th at Bacara Resort and Spa in Santa Barbara. The event was led by Henry Dubroff, Editor, Pacific Coast Business Times and included a speech from Keynote Speaker Victor Parker, SBA Director, Los Angeles District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. The ceremony provided winners the opportunity to “network and it was great to see all the winner’s videos at the end of the luncheon, that was truly a great surprise.” said Helmuth.

Tammie Helmuth, President of Conejo Awards has been named the 2013 Spirit of Small Business Awardwinner for the East Ventura County area. Helmuth owns and operates Conejo Awards with her husband Mike Helmuth. Prior to her nomination and subsequent win of the Spirit of Small Business Award, Helmuth has been recognized and honored for her community involvement and service in both the Ventura and Thousand Oaks Rotary Clubs. Helmuth currently also serves as the President of the Thousand Oaks Police Charitable Foundation, sits on the board for Hospice of Conejo, and is an incoming chairperson for the Girl Scouts of America Central Coast.

Established in 2003, this year’s Spirit of Small Business received hundreds of entries from Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. The Spirit of Small Business Awards is presented by The Business Times and the Los Angeles District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. This annual special section is in its 11th year and the 2013 report was published in the July 26 print edition of The Pacific Coast Business Times. This year’s award ceremony was held on Thursday, August 15th at Bacara Resort and Spa in Santa Barbara, CA.
