South American Corporation Benefits from ITAP’s Team Process Questionnaire

A large corporation in South America has received the results of Team Process Questionnaire (TPQ) for two of its HR teams. The questionnaire generated a report that identified three problems areas: communication, trust, and strategic alignment.

The questionnaire generated a report that identified three problems areas: communication, trust, and strategic alignment.  ITAP International, developer of this team assessment tool, identified the problem areas and recommended the remedies to address these team challenges.

 

1. The executives reviewing the results expected communication to be a problem, because many team members were less than one year on the team.  Indeed, the assessment report identified communication (both internal and external) as an issue. 

 

In response,: The managers of the two teams will meet more frequently with each other and communicate their decisions to their respective team members on a more consistent basis.

 

2. A second area of concern identified by the instrument was low levels of trust.  The team discussed this challenge and the facilitators identified factors that weaken and strengthen trust.  Facilitators recommended ways to improve inter- and intra-team trust: The two HR teams need to better define and communicate team protocols aligned with those behaviors that “break trust”. They also need to further clarify team members’ roles and responsibilities.

 

3. A third area uncovered by their responses was the disconnect in strategic alignment. Team results showed a strong, unified belief that their work was critical to the success of the organization.  However, there was significant disagreement on the extent to which their work was aligned with the organization's strategy.
