BEDFORD, Mass. - Aug. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The Indian Health Service (IHS) facility in Reno Sparks is gearing up for the next phase of ICD-10 preparation.  The agency is now offering its medical coders the ICD-10-CM training course Introduction to ICD-10-CM for Coding Professionals.

IHS coders began ICD-10 training last year with Libman Education’s Anatomy & Physiology for Coders course. ICD-10-CM for Coding Professionals allows them to build on their knowledge and prepare more fully for next year’s ICD-10 deadline. Libman Education courses are geared for progressive learning to enable easy transition from one course to the next.

“Since IHS provides federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives, by distributing our courses the organization can reach an important segment of the population that we wouldn’t reach otherwise,” said Barry Libman, president of Libman Education. “We are honored for another opportunity to help equip IHS coders with the tools to excel as medical coding professionals.”

Introduction to ICD-10-CM for Coding Professionals, developed by well-known author and ICD-10 expert Gail I. Smith, MA, RHIA, CCS-P, is an online, self-paced course that allows students to work around their busy schedule.

The course highlights the key changes in ICD-10-CM Diagnostic Coding, and teaches students how to translate ICD-9-CM knowledge to the new version of the classification system. In addition, the course provides exercises and case studies applicable to any clinical setting, and includes new conventions and guidelines with the focus on the expanded code set.

The ICD-10-CM training course includes the following special learning activities: hands-on coding exercises for all clinical settings, coding of case studies with instant feedback, and editing of coded data. Students are eligible for 7 AHIMA CEUs (continuing education units).  (The number of AAPC CEU credits has not yet been determined.)
