EDITOR’S NOTES ABOUT REMY HAIR

Remy hair production ensures that the hair’s cuticles are not inverted. The cuticle is the outer layer of the human hair strand. If you were to magnify this strand this layer looks very much like the scales of a fish - this is the protective outer layer. If the hair is not collected where this outer layer is all going one way, these “scales”, or cuticles, can work against each other. Non-Remy hair tends to tangle because the cuticle is snagging on the other hair that has the cuticle “scales” going in another direction.

There are times when hair will undergo a cuticle stripping or smoothing. This helps non-Remy hair not snag and tangle as much. In addition, silicone is placed over the cuticle of the hair for a shiny healthy appearance, which makes it difficult initially to tell the difference between Remy and non-Remy hair, at least until the hair has been washed. Only then, when the silicone is removed can you tell the true nature of the hair. Non-Remy hair will begin to tangle and Remy hair will stand the test of time, providing lasting value and lasting style.

Single-drawn Remy hair is made up of different lengths, with the cuticles intact.

Double-drawn Remy hair is hair that has been sorted to ensure all the hair is the same length. This type of Remy hair can be very expensive because of the time it takes to make sure all the hair is the same length (this type of hair is not sustainable as generally our natural hair growth has tapered ends). Most double drawn hair sold on the open market has been manufactured through China and does not result in the same premium quality as Remy. RealRemy Xtensions Indian hair is medium drawn and Russian single drawn.

 

Empress Range - Virgin Remy hair has not been chemically processed; this hair is raw and natural.

 

Royale Range - Non-virgin Remy hair underwent some sort of chemical processing in order to achieve another colour (otherwise known as pre-coloured virgin hair, which sets Remy apart from other products and effects the price point of the product).
