By: Aleh Foundation Dr. Guerriero, a Professor of Education Politics at Columbia and NYU, met with the 96-year-old Holocaust survivor in an emotional, lengthy visit to her home in Borough Park. The blessing was received in the presence of Rabbi Shlomo Braun. Mrs. Lubling, long considered the world reknowned advocate from Borough Park, has been helping those in need for over 60 years. Guerriero said, “I feel blessed by having the opportunity to meet Mrs. Lubling. Her view of history is one that we all need to be aware of, and her works and words speak volumes as to the care we need to give to each other, and to those less fortunate. I am profoundly touched by her strength, courage and determination to help make this neighborhood, our city and the world a better place. These are the life lessons I am learning in this campaign, and I will incorporate them into practice and policy once I become Public Advocate.” Miriam Lubling commented: “Coming here to me already having the blessing of Rabbi Braun and Rabbi Oscar Ehrenreich is special enough. But yes, I give Cathy my blessing, and I also gift Cathy with the following advice: when you find someone in need, do not hesitate. When your heart is moved to help, move in quickly.” Of the visit, Rabbi Braun said, “Mrs. Lubling has been saving the most broken among us in Brooklyn, around NYC, and around the world for most of her life. I’ve known and admired her for over 40 years. Mrs. Lubling was honored at the Aleh Foundation Women’s Chapter Awards Luncheon in 1999 where she raised thousands of dollars for the disabled children of Aleh. Friends from New York University Medical Center and Maimonides Hospital joined Aleh in honoring the Angel of Mercy, Miriam Lubling. We all take lessons from Mrs. Lubling, and for Cathy to have her blessing as the next Public Advocate of NYC is unprecedented.” Aleh Foundation’s goal is to provide care, education, nourishment, medical assistance, rehabilitation and love to hundreds of Israel’s most severely disabled children in four cities. Recently Guerriero was endorsed by the Uniformed Firefighters Association, the Uniformed Fire Officers Association and the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association. She also has the endorsements from two dozen faith-based and community leaders. A former star athlete and small business owner, Guerriero comes from a union family of teachers, police officers and firefighters.
