Government News: U.S. to Consider Giving More Aid to Israel and Navy to Build a Surveillance Base

By: ExecutiveGov

Aug. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- ExecutiveGov unveiled a number of timely and important news items this week geared toward the government and government contracting executive.

Two vital stories the website published included an announcement about a new maritime surveillance facility and talk of increased U.S. aid to Israel.

Currently, Israel is meant to receive $3.15 billion a year in aid from the U.S.

According to an ExecutiveGov article, Israel wants its aid increased due to quality of military edge concerns, military modernization and new threats from regional instability.

“QME, which pertains to Israel’s ability to defend itself by itself against any combination of Mideast adversaries, was always implied but never explicitly linked to long-term FMF agreements or security assistance planning,” said Dov Zakheim, formerly Pentagon comptroller and undersecretary of defense.

Israel's qualitative military edge concerns were recently codified into US law, according to the article.

The Navy has awarded a $15.9 million contract to build a facility where command and control systems will be setup for UAV intelligence activities.

The base will serve as a hub for air-based anti-submarine warfare and maritime partrol missions for the Navy’s Atlantic and Caribbean divisions.

It will also serve as an operations center where Northrop Grumman-made unmanned aerial vehicles and other maritime patrol planes will be based.
