ATLANTA - Aug. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- On October 26, 2013, Special Ops Series (http://www.specialopsseries.com) will host an event featuring two military-inspired races in Serenbe, Ga. The 5K Assault, a terrain run that incorporates horizontal and vertical encounters, and the Green Beret Challenge, a more difficult challenge for teams of two or more people. Both races will test the mental and physical capabilities of athletes by exposing them to challenges similar to those Special Operations Forces face during their rigorous training. The Special Ops Series has aligned with Rally Foundation to help generate awareness and funds for the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research (http://www.rallyfoundation.org). Instead of fighting the war on terror, like Elite Operatives, racers will be helping kids fight the war against childhood cancer.

“The Special Ops Series is intended to affiliate individuals, groups, families and thrill-seekers to the camaraderie, mental and physical toughness, and the adversity that Special Operations Forces are exposed to on a daily basis,” says Rodney Cruce, a retired Special Forces Officer and co-founder of the event. “The alignment with Rally Foundation is symbolic in the fact that these kids are presented with a real-world, life-threatening situation without any preparation or forewarning. The similarities are amazing, and more so, the ‘esprit de corps’ amongst the kids, their parents, and the organizations trying to help, is a direct correlation towards their will to succeed.”

The issue of childhood cancer became especially near to Cruce’s heart when his longtime friend from the military, Command Sergeant Major (retired), Todd Svenson’s, eight-year-old daughter, Tori, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Tori became a “Rally Kid”, a child who is fighting or has fought cancer, in 2011 and participates in many activities with Rally to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.

“We are honored to be a part of the Special Ops Series and are inspired by Rodney’s military commitment, as well as his commitment to kids who have been affected by cancer,” says Dean Crowe, Founder and CEO of Rally. “We hope that all participants will feel empowered by kids fighting cancer and will help us bridge the gap in childhood cancer research funding.”

The Green Beret Challenge is a 6-8 mile course designed by U.S. Special Forces to test a team’s mental and physical stamina, problem-solving and decision-making skills. This course is for the committed athlete and is a perfect WOD for Crossfitters. The Green Beret Challenge requires a minimum of two people per team and offers cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 to the top three finishers.
