CDC Advises that Green Carpet Cleaning Helps Lower the Risks of Asthma

AUSTIN, Texas - Aug. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- With asthma rates rising, the CDC is blaming interior and exterior factors as the leading triggers for these attacks.  Not only does removing these triggers result in reducing instances of attacks, but evidence is increasingly pointing to the methods that are used to remove those triggers are increasingly seen as equally important.

According to the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC), the numbers of people who are suffering from the adverse affects of asthma have witnessed an upsurge in recent years, particularly among children.  The government’s leading health agency blames these increases on the growth of interior and exterior pollutants as the cause, and recommends taking every prudent step to help avoid possible exposure.

Unbeknownst to most homeowners, one of the primary culprits aiding in the spread of asthmatic conditions is, literally, right beneath their feet hiding in their carpets.  Carpets are reservoirs of environmental problems from dust and dirt to allergens and mold.  The impact of these toxins on the indoor air quality of a home can be significant, but cleaning it with harsh chemicals presents another host of issues that may adversely affect the health of the building’s inhabitants.

These findings were buttressed by a recent World Health Organization study, which suggests that dirty and damp carpets have the potential for exacerbating already existing asthmatic conditions.  Equally problematic is the fact that the majority of carpet cleaning businesses in operation still uses the harsh chemicals associated with the industry.

These habits are changing, however.

“There have been dramatic improvements in carpet cleaning that is changing the course of how people clean their carpets.” Says Ed Sisk.  Sisk is the president and CEO of XL North, which manufactures and distributes environmentally conscious floor maintenance systems.  Additionally, Sisk is a leading business wide advocate for environmentally based green cleaning solutions within the carpet cleaning industry.

“Carpet cleaning companies using environmentally sound methods are noticing the results in cleaner buildings, and healthier occupants, visitors, and staff members.” Notes Sisk.

Many of the traditional ingredients in the carpet cleaner’s tool kit are known as potentially carcinogenic solvents such as naphthalene. Even without the risk of contracting cancer, the use of these chemicals has been demonstrated to cause headaches, nausea, and dizziness.  Children and pets tend to spend much more time in closer proximity to the carpet, and are especially vulnerable to the effects of the chemicals.

Austin, Texas-based carpet cleaning company, AAA Carpet Care, has taken the steps needed to ensure an eco-friendly approach to the cleaning of carpets.  In announcing their services, company management has informed Austin-area residents that they will be eschewing traditional cleaning methods in favor of more benign green cleaning options.  As such, they guarantee that they will only use all natural, soap free, zero residue cleaner, which contains no dangerous chemicals and is completely safe for both pets and children when cleaning residential and commercial properties within their area of operation.
