"Eyes Blue, or Random Meanderings of a Manic Depressive"

Self-Help Memoir Lets Us See Manic Depression Through New Eyes

SAN FRANCISCO - Aug. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- What is so special about Adam Ant, Ludwig van Beethoven, Dick Cavett, Kurt Cobain, Rosemary Clooney, Charles Dickens, Larry Flint, Abbie Hoffman, John Keats, Margot Kidder, Jack London, Isaac Newton, Sinead O’Connor, Edgar Allan Poe, Dusty Springfield, Devin Townsend, Kurt Vonnegut, Vincent van Gogh, Brian Wilson, and Virginia Woolf?

And what so many other members of the proletariat have the honor of sharing with such a diverse, talented and creative set of personalities? It isn’t necessarily intelligence. It isn’t necessarily aptitude. It isn’t necessarily flair. It is that we are all gifted with a serious and wonderful disease.

None of us so afflicted collect things for fame or fortune. We do it because we can’t help it. We go around collecting things that may not make sense to others, but mean the world to us. We collect smiles and tears, laughter, exhilaration and fear. We wouldn’t have it any other way if we could; we were born that way. But we also create. We might express ourselves in ways that are different. We might be thought of as being mentally ill; and we are. But we also possess an innate sense of compassion that is possibly the antithesis to man’s inhumanity to man. We care and we achieve. It is programmed into our DNA.

So when someone has the intestinal fortitude to tell you he or she is a manic depressive or has bipolar disorder, you should not immediately think: Delusions of grandeur! Suicidal tendencies! Oh, my God! You might just think that he or she has something marvelous to tell you.
– Alan Reed

“Author Alan Reed takes readers on a journey of random meanderings while dealing with manic depression. While interviewing this author, I could tell that his true desire is to help those also afflicted. Powerful ...” – Lynda D. Brown “spoken word,” St. Louis

“Thoughtful and creative, Reed conjures up personal demons and liberating beauty with an understated, rhythmic flow of thoughts and words. A great change of pace for the avid reader.” – Charles Oberbeck on Amazon

“The author has written a wonderful if not masterful prose and verse book that reflects glimpses of his illness into a world seen through eyes that only many people with bipolar can interpret. ‘Random Meanderings’ is a magical mystery tour that will leave you wanting more, begging questions to answers you may never know … each story contains a moral of its own. The author has a message to give to the bipolar population and their caregivers, also to those that may have lost someone to the disease. A simple message of hope. I found the book absolutely enthralling!” – “Butterfly” on Amazon
