Canadian online fine art gallery accepting consignments

HAMILTON, Ontario - Aug. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Online art gallery FineArtCollector.ca is now accepting consignments of Canadian fine art.
The gallery – www.fineartcollector.ca – has designed a consignment model with low commission fees to making selling, buying and exchanging fine art more affordable for the average collector.
FineArtCollector founders Clayton Kenyon and Mark Skeffington say that in most cases sellers of artworks face a commission rate of about 25 per cent, often making it difficult to realize a profit even when the art has appreciated in value over time.
“By keeping our costs low – no fancy gallery sitting on prime real estate — we are able to charge low commissions. In turn, this allows sellers to consign at lower rates and end up with more money in their pockets,” said Kenyon.
FineArtCollector’s consignment rate for sellers is 10 per cent for works priced at $1,500 or higher, and a flat rate of $150 for art under that price.
The fees cover the cost to feature an artwork on the online gallery, promotion, and for connecting sellers with buyers.
Kenyon and Skeffington believe the rates are the “lowest in the Canadian art market.” The two also note they don’t charge a buyer’s premium, which typically ranges from 15 to 20 per cent in the market.
