Washington, D.C. – For a town that’s always at the intersection between politics and business, Washington, D.C. actually has a charming history of comedy that many aren’t even aware exists. LYGO DC (http://lygodc.com/) is aiming to reverse this trend and promote the District’s thriving comedy scene one show at a time, and will continue to do so by partnering with Sean Joyce (https://twitter.com/_SeanJoyce) and Underground Comedy (http://www.undergroundcomedydc.com/) to present DC comedy legend Tony Woods (http://www.tonywoods.com/) at the opening of Stand Up at Bier Baron, located at 1523 22nd Street NW. The opening show will be Thursday, September 5.

Based in Washington for the past three decades, Tony was an established comedian when Dave Chappelle and Wanda Sykes came up through the DC comedy circuit.  With such appearances as the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, Showtime at the Apollo, Last Comic Standing, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, as well as the Melbourne Comedy Festival and the Sydney Comedy Festival, Tony Woods is recognized as one of the best and most engaging comedians in the business. Sara Armour (http://lygodc.com/performers/sara-armour/), local favorite and repeat headliner at Comedy at Codmother, by popular request, will feature. Co-producer Sean Joyce will host the 8:30 p.m. door / 9 p.m. show.

Stand Up at Bier Baron will be every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month in 2013, with Kyle Martin (http://lygodc.com/performers/kyle-martin/) and Tyler Richardson (http://lygodc.com/performers/tyler-richardson/) co-headlining the Sept. 19 show.

“Underground Comedy is very excited to team up with LYGO DC in the co-production of Stand-Up at Bier Baron, as well as to have Tony [Woods],” Joyce said. “By bringing together the unique capabilities of each group, we are adding to the DC comedy scene and producing one of the biggest independent comedy shows in the area.”
