The team at Toyota of Merrillville (http://www.toyotaofmerrillville.com/ The Hybrid-R Concept, as it’s being called, will feature Toyota’s Hybrid System-Racing (THS-R) technology, which has also been used in the TS030 hybrid Le Mans Racer. Performance enthusiasts have reason to be excited about this common bond, as the TS030 is equipped with a 530-hp 3.4L V8 working together with a 300-hp hybrid system for a total output of 830 hp. The TS030 earned second place at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. It’s unlikely that an 830-hp hybrid supercar will see commercial release. That said, the fact that the Hybrid-R Concept has been designed with both the road and track in mind suggests that it will offer plenty of power for drivers who are seeking an engaging experience behind the wheel. The concept will be revealed on September 10 at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, and it’s likely that Toyota will continue to leak details in the lead-up to the event. It’s too early to be certain whether the Hybrid-R concept will see production or if it will even influence another family of hybrids such as the Prius. It seems likely, though, that the concept is a direct response to upcoming Acura NSX hybrid supercar, which itself it expected to hit the market in 2015. If that’s the case, Toyota has indicated that it will not be outdone by its competitors. Indiana drivers who wish to learn more about the Hybrid-R Concept, or about any other future vehicles from Toyota, can do so when they visit Toyota of Merrillville.
