MEDFORD, N.Y. - Aug. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Community Housing Innovations, Inc. (CHI) has announced that the organization has received $909,342 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the renewal of its highly successful Supportive Housing Programs (SHP) in 2013. These funds help provide supportive services to homeless families and help them find and maintain permanent housing.

The SHP is a valuable tool in the effort to end homelessness. CHI, a HUD-approved housing agency, began administering the program in 1997 and now has a total of six programs on Long Island — two in Suffolk County and four in Nassau County.

Each day, through the SHP, individuals and families with special needs receive housing and supportive services at apartments in the community. The social services component allows families and singles with mental illness function successfully in their neighborhoods. Many have lived in their homes for over ten years.

“We are very grateful for being awarded this grant by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,” says Alexander Roberts, CHI’s Executive Director. “Over the years, the program has helped thousands of families and single people find and retain permanent housing on Long Island.”
