SUFFOLK, Va. - Aug. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- In celebration of its 4th annual region-wide back-to-school gathering, Suffolk-based Y2K Academy, asks Hampton Roads Dads to take their daughters to school on the first day of school, as a means to increase girls’ graduation rates and improve their performance in local schools. The “Fathers As First Teachers on the First Day of School” event kicks off on Saturday, August 31st at 10am-2pm with a pizza party donated by Al Forno’s Restaurant, games, guest speakers and fun at Y2K Academy CDC, 3537 Pruden Boulevard, Suite A, Suffolk, VA 23434.

The drop-out prevention initiative is a component of its Y2K Dadz Responsible Fatherhood Initiative organized by The Master’s House Church. “Recently, we have witnessed increased violence amongst girls. We developed this initiative out of our growing concern over this trend, and to combat school drop-out rates overall,” stated Dr. Princella Johnson, Y2K Academy Founder. “Students who drop out of the school system are at-risk for drug use, teen pregnancy and criminal activity,” states Johnson. “This initiative is designed to decrease “idle minds and hands” from gang involvement and any type of negative behavior. We believe our efforts will eventually lead to increased public safety, poverty reduction and create more tax-paying, productive citizens,” she said.

Guest speakers for the event include Y2K Academy’s founder, Dr. Princella Johnson and Mrs. Costellar Ledbetter, Retired Teacher, Businesswoman and Suffolk’s NAACP Branch President.
