NATIONWIDE, USA- AUGUST 7, 2013 – Change The Definition Apparel Company LLC., led by Icon Fashion forward Entrepreneur Rebekah Star announced their latest initiative to raise awareness and revolutionize childhood literacy through the Change The Definition Literacy Project in the Greater Portland community and nationwide.
When fashion and philanthropy merges, the outcome is transformative. Through the Change The Definition campaign, not only do consumers have the opportunity to purchase some of the hottest products on the market, they also help fund a new program that strengthens at-risk youth and assists them in building a solid foundation in reading skills.
This summer CTD launched an online fundraiser to sustain their pilot summer school program at Irvington Elementary School in Northeast Portland. Through this program they will start the groundwork of providing students K- 3 with an intensive hands- on summer reading boot-camp. Statistics show that if students are not up to the appropriate reading level by 4th grade they are simply left behind. "My seven year old son is young for his grade and he has struggled to keep up with his peers academically. Thanks to the Literacy Project he is thrilled to be reading better already and can't wait to return the next day. I am so grateful we have had the opportunity for him to take part in it,” states Caitlin Krause, CTD Literacy Project Parent.
Rebekah’s passion for changing the definition of childhood literacy has lead to a modern and pioneering vision that will tackle the deficiencies in public schools. CTD Teacher Laela Rae says that, “Change the Definition is bringing students the immense benefits of learning to read through targeted, small-group intervention strategies. Students will reach proficiency in the vital, life-long skill of reading."
CTD will continue their fundraising efforts by providing their best selling Literacy Bracelets to show awareness. 250 bracelets will need to be sold in order to meet their goal for the cost of the program.
