features the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients for its burger, hot dogs, fires and rolls and ice cream. It was equally as demanding for its fleet of delivery bikes. Luckily, they found a cycle manufacturer with all those qualities right across the East River in Queens.
Clarke’
s turned to 115 year old Worksman Cycles http://www.worksmancycles.com/
to produce a fleet of custom cruiser delivery bikes. Having offered cycle delivery for several years at its P.J. Clarke’
s restaurants, including a fleet of Worksman tricycles, they were able to develop a list of features that were necessary to have the fleet survive the tough streets of New York City.
“It’
s a mistake to simply put a large basket on a recreational bike’”
stated Wayne Sosin, President of Worksman. “Delivery bikes are capital equipment that need to meet the same criteria of being industrial-rated for daily, and often, round the clock use,” Sosin added.
In addition to its century plus experience producing industrial and commercial cycles, Worksman offered Clarke’
s two other benefits: First, the bikes are produced in Worksman’
s solar-powered Queens factory resulting in the lowest possible total carbon impact of any bike available. Second, Worksman was able to collaborate with Clarke’
s on a custom design without having to produce the hundreds of cycles necessary if they were imported or the extraordinarily high cost of having a custom builder produce them domestically.
The sharp new fleet of Clarke’
s Standard bikes are finished with bright red water-
based, vegetable pigment paint, tan leather seats and, at the suggestion of the deliverymen, narrow straight handlebars. Fitted with a cooler on the rear rack to carry the delicious cargo, Clarke’
s Standard now offers delivery from its 8
th Ave, Lexington Ave., and Maiden Lane locations.
