LEHI, Utah - Aug. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Now you won’t have to check up on your aging parents; thanks to the new motion sensors and monitors that will set off an alarm if any elderly member in your house gets sick. The research on such high tech gadgets for health care of the elderly has been growing since the last couple of years.

These gadgets serve as an insurance in case something happens. Most old age people like to live and spend most of their time at home. As Americans get north of 40, they start worrying about their independence. There are many companies that have been offering monitoring equipments. They place motion sensors on the door, chair, refrigerator and parts of the living room that send an alert to a family member if there has been very little activity for a long period of time.  Then there are some other gadgets that set off a buzz when its time for a dose of medicine or sends a text message to the care giver.

Researchers have been aiming to go further with building more advanced gadgets for ensuring the safety of seniors at home. There are automatic monitoring devices that can spot restlessness in bed, drop in activities during the daytime, monitor pulse and respiratory patterns etc.

The motion sensor package can also send automatic emails about the motion levels and activity levels to the care givers or nurses. It was also found that the group of seniors who let their activities being monitored functioned better than the unmonitored group because in the prior case, they would instantly get support from the nurses.

That said, questions have been raised about if alerting a family member would be as effective as alerting a nurse. New systems on the matter now allow the senior citizens to choose if they want to notify someone from their own family along with the nurse.

The application of such motion sensor gadgets for monitoring the elderly would be quite significant mainly because many seniors forget to press the emergency call button. With the motion sensors, they won’t have to do anything themselves and the concerned ones would automatically be notified.

These motion sensor devices are available in various price ranges. If you are away from home most of the time, you should consider getting an effective motion sensor package for monitoring the health of seniors at home. They are well worth the price.
