REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Aug. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Redwood City, CA – Ampex Data Systems Corporation (Ampex) announces the release of its newest rugged high-definition video recorder, the TuffServ® 220 (TS 220).

The TuffServ 220 high-definition encoder/recorder can function as a multichannel video recorder, encoder, video playback system, and file server. The TS 220 base model is equipped with both 1080p/720p HD and SD input and output interfaces, as well as Gigabit Ethernet interfaces (HD-SDI, RS-170 and 1000Base-T, respectively). Encoding is via MPEG-4 Part 10/AVC (H.264), using a low-latency/high bit-rate algorithm well suited to person-in-the-loop applications. Metadata in accordance with MISB 6.4 is supported over the HD-SDI interface(s), with other metadata inputs to follow as required. The TS 220 is part of the TuffServ System product family, including the TS 100v, the TS 282, the TS 480 and TS 482. Each TuffServ system shares a common overall hardware architecture philosophy and has significant amounts of software in common. Control and status is provided across Ethernet and optionally serial interfaces. These can also be used for time setting (NTP, IEEE 1588/PTP, NMEA 0183). Other video and data interfaces - such as DVI-D, IRIG-B and MIL-STD-1553 - will also be available.

Application-Appropriate Memory Storage (RASP)

Among its most exceptional features is the TS 220’s specially packaged memory unit. Developed to ensure seamless, consistent recording in the harshest conditions, the Rugged Advanced Storage Pack (RASP) module combines a fully-featured solid-state storage device (SSD) with a USB 3.0 bridge - packaged in an enclosure about 3”x2”x ½” thick, with a large grip/handle and features to prevent miss-insertion.

“We are very pleased to introduce this new high-performance product to meet the needs of the market’s rapidly growing and more demanding video recording applications” says Larry Chiarella, Ampex President and CEO. “The TS 220’s multi-channel hi-definition capability, metadata support, Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, and mission-designed memory means that the system can meet a variety of customer needs - from ISR applications, to mission recording, to flight tests. Further, the TS 220’s use of COTS SSD memory ensures cutting-edge performance at a competitive price.”
