Fairfield University Announces Contract Extension For Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joe Frager

Fairfield University has extended the contract of Head Women's Basketball Coach Joe Frager through the 2017-18 season. The Stags have won more than 20 games in three of Frager's six years at the helm.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - July 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Fairfield University Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joe Frager has signed a contract extension through the 2017-18 season. The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Eugene P. Doris on Wednesday.

“Under Joe’s leadership over the last six seasons, the Fairfield women’s basketball program has continued to succeed, reaching the national postseason and bringing the WNIT to campus,” Doris said. “His commitment and devotion to the legacy of Stags women’s basketball has been unwavering. In addition to athletics excellence, Joe has incorporated the values of academics, leadership, and service into the program. This contract extension rewards his successes and reaffirms the commitment of Fairfield University to Joe, his family, and the program.”

In his six seasons at the helm of Fairfield, Frager has led the Stags to 119 victories with three 20-win seasons. Fairfield has reached the national postseason in three of the last four campaigns, including a 2012 WNIT appearance at home in Alumni Hall, and two Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) appearances. Last season, Fairfield went 18-14 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the WBI after defeating St. Francis University, 71-51, at Alumni Hall. In addition, his student-athletes have earned 15 All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) selections and five All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association recognitions during his tenure.

“I would like to thank [University President] Father Jeffrey von Arx, [Senior Vice President] Mark Reed, and Gene Doris for the faith they have shown and the support they have given to me during my tenure. This contract extension represents a continuation of that faith and support as we move forward together,” Frager said. “I would also like to thank my family, friends, coaching staff, and the special group of student-athletes that I am so fortunate to work with. Fairfield University is a special place and I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to coach here. Together, we look forward to continued success, as we strive to lead our program to even greater heights.”

Frager has been a head coach at the collegiate level for 15 years, with nine seasons at Southern Connecticut State University. He boasts a career record of 308-155, including a 119-72 mark at Fairfield. His resume includes the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championships and six Coach of the Year awards. In 2008, Frager was inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and in October 2009, he was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.
