MANHATTAN, N.Y. - July 30, 2013 - PRLog -- PEOPLE OF CONSCIENCE ACROSS THE COUNTRY SUPPORTING THE OPPRESSED

Annual Al-Quds Day Rally for a Just Peace in Palestine and for the Oppressed Worldwide

New York, NY Friday August 2, 2013 @ 3:30 PM (Times Square, Corner 42nd and 7th Ave)

Al-Quds is Arabic for Jerusalem, the Holy Land. Yawm-al Quds or al-Quds Day is a day of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians in their struggle against the Apartheid system of Israel. Al-Quds Day also extends beyond Palestine to support all oppressed people in their struggles across the world. Rallies and marches are held on this day, the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan, in order to pledge solidarity with those seeking peace through justice.  People of good conscience and from diverse backgrounds all come together in support of this noble cause.

With the recent calls and victories stemming from the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement and the recent announcement by the European Union's boycott of Israeli settlements, the mistreatment of Palestinians is becoming more and more visible.

As former United States President Jimmy Carter has stated in his book, “Palestine:  Peace Not Apartheid”:

“When Israel does occupy this territory deep within the West Bank, and connects the 200-or-so settlements with each other, with a road, and then prohibits the Palestinians from using that road, or in many cases even crossing the road, this perpetrates even worse instances of apartness, or apartheid, than we witnessed even in South Africa.”

As one attendee last year stated,

" I feel indebted to the Palestinian cause, in specific, because of  our American companies and our tax money enabling this type of the systematic subjugation and humiliation. This rally allows us to fulfill our responsibilities and our obligations towards social justice in Palestine and beyond."

This day is an opportunity to express our support with the oppressed in their struggles all over the world, from Palestine to Iraq, from Congo to Honduras and from China to right here in our own backyards in the United States.  On August 2, 2013 at 3:30 PM, join with community leaders, activists, and artists from across the northeastern United States for this historical protest in Times Square and pledge your solidarity with those seeking a just peace in Palestine and around the world.
