Chateau Morrisette's Black Dog Summer Music Festival features JJ Grey & Mofro and Rosco Bandana

July 30, 2013 - PRLog -- Chateau Morrisette presents the second of its four annual Black Dog Festivals on August 10, 2013 beginning at 11:00 AM.  The Black Dog Summer Music Festival features headliner JJ Grey and Mofro on tour promoting their just-released studio album, “This River.”  Opening the festival is Rosco Bandana, a band who beat out 12,000 other bands in the Hard Rock Calling contest to become the first group signed to Hard Rock Records.  Rosco Bandana performs at 11:00 and JJ Grey and Mofro take the stage at 2:00.

Described by the New York Times as, “Impassioned singing, riff-based Southern rock, cold-blooded swamp funk and sly Memphis soul,”JJ Grey and Mofro is led by the Jacksonville, FL-based signer and accompanied by a sextet of brass, organ, guitar and percussion known as Mofro.  Their down-home storytelling has taken them around the world with performances on almost every continent bringing fans from all walks of life.  The band is currently touring to promote their newest studio album, “This River,” which includes free-wheeling celebrations, dark inner journeys, heartfelt ballads, and tremendous vocal performances throughout.  

Opening this Black Dog Festival is a seven-piece American group from Gulfport, Mississippi called Rosco Bandana (http://www.roscobandana.com).  The band formed in 2010 under the leadership of principle songwriter, Jason Stafford and co-founder Barry Pribyl.  In 2011, the band won the Hard Rock Calling contest and flew to LA to begin recording their first studio album, “Time to Begin,” at The Nook Studio.  Greg Collins who also produced albums for U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and No Doubt produces their debut album.  Prybl says about the band, “We’re just these humble, good ol’, down-to-earth Mississippi people and when we play live, you can just see in our faces the joy of music.”

The Black Dog Summer Music Festival will be held in the Nancy Morrisette Field adjacent to the winery and features several regional wineries, including Chateau Morrisette, diverse food venders, artists, artisans, and festival retailers.  Gates open at 10:00 AM.  Guests should bring lawn chairs, blankets, and umbrellas for shade.  The event is dog friendly provided they remain on a leash.  Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the gate.  Admission includes wine tastings, a festival wine glass, and all entertainment.  Parking is on site and free.  For more information or to reserve tickets, call (540) 593-2865 or http://www.thedogs.com.

Black Dog Music and BBQ Festival, Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 11AM - 5PM          

A Kansas City Barbecue Association Sanctioned Competition featuring competitors from around the region, the Black Dog Music and BBQ Festival features competitive barbecue for sampling and a wide selection of festival food for purchase.  

Headlining the festivities is Donna The Buffalo, whichJamBase describes as “[e]clectic and often socially conscious with its base in traditional mountain music, infused with elements of zydeco, rock, folk, reggae and country.” Opening the festival is Big Daddy Love, featuring North Carolina natives performing their well-known Appalachian Rock from their latest album Let It Grow. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the gate. Admission includes wine tasting, souvenir glass, and great musical entertainment.

Black Dog Beach Music Festival, Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 11AM - 5PM        

Our 5th annual Beach Music Festival is a “shagging” good time! Dance clubs and other aficionados spend the afternoon dancing in the sunshine, sipping Chateau Morrisette wine, and eating great food.  

Headlining this year’s festival are Gold record recording artists The Tams, featuring original band member Charles Pope and well-known for hits like “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy” and “What Kind of Fool.” Openers the North Tower Band feature a sizzling brass section, super vocals, and a wide-ranging repertoire.
