Beginning at 5pm, the general public is invited to share Visions of Peace with poetry, dance and music. At 7:15pm, the exact moment of the Hiroshima bombing, there will be a Peace Bell Ringing Ceremony led by gong master Don Conreaux. Everyone is invited to bring bells to join in Peace Bell Ceremony.

The Riverside Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Grace Church, and Middle Collegiate Church are some of the churches in New York City that will participate by ringing their bells.

Among the performers who will be attendance are Raging Grannies, Ray Korona, Russell Daisey, Barry Gruber of the Peaceniks, Hilario Soto, Ippei Ichimaru, Adele Rodier, Namaya, Zoe Kopp, The Streetsingers and more.

Universal Peace Day (UPday) brings people around the world together to share their vision of peace and to transform a remembrance of horror into a rededication of life. The legacy of UPday, sponsored by Art For The People, began in 1984 in Central Park, where Peter Yarrow and others performed before a candle lighting ceremony at the exact moment of the Hiroshima bombing. Over the years, UPday events have taken place in numerous locations including Dag Hammerskjold Plaza, Riverside Park, Battery Park, The Riverside Church, Church Center of the UN, Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew, and the NY Buddhist Church.
