Out Of Town Store Move To High Street A Success

North Wales firm Ruthin Decor Ltd. is thriving after turning its back on out-of-town retail and moving back to the high street.
RUTHIN, Wales - Aug. 1, 2013 - PRLog --
The family run 5000 sq foot DIY store has increased in turnover by 43% since it abandoned the industrial estate for the historic Ruthin town centre.

Director, Nick Birch puts the success down to an increase in footfall, free parking and high visibility. “We’re proof that the high street is not dead. Moving to this location is the best decision we ever made.”

Ruthin Decor is a one-stop shop for home improvements with hundred's of tile displays, more than 200 lights, 200 wallpapers and 10,000 tins of paint.

Customers in DIY stores need to transport heavy tins of paint or tiles home easily so finding a shop with customer parking was a must. Adding a high street presence with a shop window has helped create a winning formula. “One lady on holiday from Yorkshire phoned her next door neighbour and asked him to measure his living room so she could buy some wallpaper.” Local spend has also increased partly due to the convenience factor of being close to other shops in the street.

Ruthin Décor moved from a small shop in Clwyd Street to Lon Parcwr Industrial estate in 2001. After ten years on the industrial estate they moved to the current Well Street location in October 2011 increasing the workforce to seven. The increase in takings has led to the jobs being secured and an increase in hours for some employees.

Directors Nick Birch and Maureen Young are encouraged by the increase in business but do not want to become complacent, “These figures are much better than we expected, we will continue to improve our customer experience, our ambition is to become Denbighshire's number one DIY store.”
