July 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Colorado-based Dolphin Micro, Inc. is proud to announce the August 1st launch of BotLogic, a new online game designed to help young kids develop the logic and spatial reasoning skills necessary to learn computer programming. The app was inspired in part by Code.org, a non-profit foundation, recently endorsed by Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, that advocates for programming education.

Funding for the game was awarded after BotLogic was named the winner in Dolphin Micro’s recent contest for the best app concept. The game challenges players to navigate a robot through increasingly complex courses by building simple programs. As the courses become more difficult, players must utilize and combine programming concepts learned in previous levels in order to solve the puzzles.

The development process has been exciting and educational, says Creative Director Brad Wedell, who admits to initially focusing on the creative aspects of the game. Using children as testers quickly revealed the need to pivot toward game fundamentals.

“Early on, focus groups and usability testing showed us that outside feedback was going to be crucial to our process. Watching kids interact with initial versions of the game forced us to focus on game mechanics and workflow before we got creative with the levels. In the end, I’m extremely proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish.”

Project Manager Donnie Seigler agrees that using kids as testers proved critical to the project’s success. “You are always wondering if they will like it. The payoff comes when you watch them play for the first time and see them challenged, yet determined to figure it out. And the high-fives when they do - the ultimate reward."

BotLogic is designed primarily for players aged 6 and up, but younger children will also enjoy playing with a parent’s help. BotLogic runs in any web browser and is free to play. More information is available at http://botlogic.us.
