Follow on Google News | Media Advisory: Campers Demonstrate Their Robot Performance Skills at SBPLI’s FIRST Robotics CampBy: School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. Janet Anderson, Director, SBPLI Robotics Camp staff and representatives from Dowling College Students and mentors What: For the second year in a row, School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI), in cooperation with Dowling College, hosted its weeklong FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Summer Day Camp. Over a five-day period, students learned how to build, operate and program a robot to perform certain tasks. They will put that knowledge to good use when they show their family members what they have learned during those five days. Elementary and middle school-aged children built and programmed robots with LEGO pieces and moving parts, while high school students built and programmed a 120-pound robot. There was a sharp increase in enrollment this year due to the children’s increased interest in SBPLI’s FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and FIRST Robotics Competition programs. These programs create an educated workforce for Long Island by opening the minds of students to career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
