HIGH WYCOMBE, U.K. - July 25, 2013 - PRLog -- A new report from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office shows that many Britons do not have adequate insurance for their travel abroad.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has released new findings that many Britons are woefully underprepared for their travel abroad. Young people are particularly at risk, with an incredible 48% of 15-24 year olds travelling abroad without any insurance at all (according to the Travel Association ABTA).

Medical bills are the most likely shock to be encountered by an uninsured person travelling abroad.  Travellers may not be aware of the high cost of medical care abroad, which can easily run into thousands of pounds, whilst some mistakenly assume that the government will pay their bills.

The report also highlights a general misunderstanding of travel insurance policies amongst customers.  Many people use their holidays as a chance to engage in more active and dangerous pursuits, such as mountain biking, bungee jumping and jet skiing, but 50% of all British travellers don’t check they are covered by their insurance for an adventurous holiday.

Julian Hucks, Director of SportsCover Direct, states: “It is essential to check what your travel insurance will cover you for.  Most travel insurance policies don’t include cover for adventurous activities or competitive sport abroad, so it’s worth buying sports travel insurance.  Even then, don’t assume you’ll be covered for every sporting activity.  Policies are available with different levels of cover, so doing something more extreme than your insurance allows for will invalidate your policy.”

SportsCover Direct provides a range of insurance products designed to cover sport and active holidays abroad.  As well as Sports Travel Insurance, the company offers a unique product for those requiring additional cover for sporting activities abroad.   This Activity TopUp policy will add cover for sport onto existing travel insurance.  This means that customers who have already taken out travel insurance with another provider can insure themselves for adventurous activities abroad without losing out.
