AFP Golden Gate Chapter Announces 2013 National Philanthropy Day Honorees

On November 6, 2013 at The Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, CA, the AFP Golden Gate Chapter will celebrate the spirit of giving by recognizing exemplars in philanthropy and social change.

SAN FRANCISCO - July 24, 2013 - PRLog -- (San Francisco, July 24, 2013)  The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Golden Gate Chapter is pleased to invite you to the 27th Annual Association of Fundraising Professionals National Philanthropy Day on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at The Westin St. Francis Hotel, 335 Powell Street, San Francisco, CA.  Each year the AFP Golden Gate Chapter marks one day to celebrate the spirit of giving by recognizing exemplars in philanthropy and social change.  Awards are presented to individuals and institutions whose giving to the community inspires all of us.  We are pleased to announce the following 2013 honorees.

The Award for Lifetime Achievement in Philanthropy will be presented to Gerson and Barbara Bakar for their significant financial contributions to and leadership in diverse non-profit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The recipient of The Outstanding Philanthropist Award is Robert Haas for his outstanding civic and charitable responsibility which has extended across the trajectory of his life, from his business leadership to his generous philanthropy and important roles with a wide range of nonprofit institutions.

The Award for The Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer will be presented to Nancy Hellman Bechtle, a fourth-generation San Franciscan, who has been a significant presence in the San Francisco philanthropic community for over three decades.  

The Hank Rosso Outstanding Fundraising Professional Award goes to Patricia Stirling, of Cardaronella Stirling Associates, for her thoughtful leadership in the philanthropic sector and dedication to advancing the work of nonprofits locally, nationally and internationally.

The recipient of The Outstanding Corporate Grantmaker Award is Macy’s for their ideological belief and financial support in their work with nonprofit organizations and the community at large.

The Outstanding Foundation or Community Grantmaker Award goes to the S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation for their long-standing tradition of engagement, guidance and wisdom alongside each investment that has made a tremendous difference in the success of their grantees.

The Award for The Outstanding Foundation Professional will be presented to Mario Diaz, Vice President of the Wells Fargo Foundation, who has made a positive and lasting impression in the community and is directly responsible for Wells Fargo’s financial contributions in the San Francisco Bay Area for nearly $20 million to nonprofits in 2011.

The Vineyards Award which celebrates an organization having less than $500,000 in private support, goes to Brothers on the Rise, a small and emerging non-profit organization that was launched in May 2008, whose mission is to responsibly empower boys and young men of color to achieve individual success, develop healthy relationships and contribute to a more just and equitable society.  

The awardee for The Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award is 14-year-old Giovanni “Gio” Garcia who led his friends at the Shih Yu Lang Central YMCA in the San Francisco Tenderloin to write, apply for and receive funding from the City of San Francisco to reinstate and preserve the Y’s youth boxing program.
