-- Arlington Heights Ford, the local Chicagoland Ford dealer, has announced that when the 2014 Ford Focus (http://www.ahford.com/
ford-focus) Electric arrives, the base price will be $4,000 less than the current model. While a full specification list has yet to be released, Ford claims that no features have been sacrificed to lower the price. The new Focus EV price will start at $35,995 including the destination charge. The new vehicle should arrive at dealers in only a few weeks.
A Ford spokesman said that, despite the lowered price, these new 2014 models would be “fully-
complete with standard features, in order to keep the Focus EV competitive. Many other manufacturers have recently dropped prices on their electric vehicles in order to convince buyers reluctant to drive an EV. The Focus EV will also qualify for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits, and other local and state incentives to drive a zero emissions and fuel efficient vehicle.
The Ford Focus Electric (http://www.ahford.com/custom/2013-ford-focus-electric
) has an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 110 city mpg equivalent. The U.S. Department of Energy recently estimated that the electric equivalent of a gallon of gas, which is how the EPA rates electric vehicles, only costs about $1.14. The Focus also has a range of 76 miles and can hit a top speed of 84 mph. The Focus Electric is powered by a 23 kWh lithium ion battery that is liquid heated or cooled for maximum efficiency. The Focus Electric also extends its eco-conscious mission into the cabin with seats made from recycled materials and cushions made from plant seed oils.
The Ford Focus Electric has only been available as a 2013 model nationwide since the beginning of the year. The 2014 model should arrive at Arlington Heights Ford at 801 W. Dundee Rd. in Arlington Heights in just a few short weeks.
