-- Kevin Roach and Leslie Francesco have been busy painting at Adventure Yacht Harbor and Boondocks Restaurant in Daytona Beach. They came down to Florida during their summer break from The Cooper Union in NYC where both students are entering their 4th
year of art college. The new mural features several sharks, a 10’ octopus, dolphin, tuna, sailfish, schools of baitfish and much more.
Kevin Roach and his college roommate Leslie Francesco have been planning what to paint on the wall ever since Kevin did the first installment in 2011. His parents, Charlie and Sheryl Roach, bought Adventure Yacht Harbor in late 2010. “All I could think about was that big long white wall…
a blank canvas. It needed more fish,”
said visual artist Kevin. They started by painting the entire wall aqua, then building onto the earlier mural with a large octopus holding it all together with long, twisting tentacles. One month later they are still adding fish to fill up areas. The most fun is seeing the reactions of young kids and talking to people as they wait for their table at Boondocks Restaurant. And their fish are the backdrops to many a tourist photos. “One girl held her baby sister in the mouth of the shark and struck a pose!”
The boys plan to wrap up their masterpiece by the end of this week.
Both boys received a full art scholarships from The Cooper Union in New York City after graduating from Art Magnet High Schools in Florida. Kevin graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, FL and Leslie Francesco graduated from Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, FL. Kevin plans to focus on film production and Leslie is a painting major.
The mural is located at Adventure Yacht Harbor, 3948 South Peninsula Drive, Daytona Beach, FL 32128.
