ST. LOUIS - July 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Southeast Toyota Finance associates received more than they gave after recently participating in a food sort at the St. Louis Area Foodbank’s Repacking Center. Volunteers carefully inspected, sorted and boxed 1,152 cases of food weighing 38,848 pounds, which will provide 28,477 meals to families across 26 counties in Illinois and Missouri. Throughout the summer months, these efforts are critical to the families whose children depend on free and reduced meals during the school year.

The St. Louis Area Foodbank is a non-profit organization helping to feed hungry families by acquiring and distributing food through member agencies, while educating the public on solutions to the problems of food insecurity.

“There are children and families who suffer from hunger and don’t know where their next meal will come from,” said Rod Arends, Vice President of Service Center Operations for Southeast Toyota Finance. “Our associates know how vital it is to support an organization that provides food and resources to so many families in dire need. The Foodbank is essential to this community so we proudly support its mission.”

Southeast Toyota Finance, an automotive captive finance company that is part of JM Family Enterprises, has been involved with St. Louis Area Foodbank since 2009. As part of a companywide initiative, the local automotive corporation held its first annual food sort in 2010, volunteering more than 170 hours.

The St. Louis Area Foodbank began its service to the community in 1975, relying on the generosity of others to make a difference in the lives of those in need of food assistance. The organization has grown to become the largest nonprofit 501(c)(3) food distribution center in the two-state region –12 counties in Illinois and 14 counties in Missouri – dedicated to feeding children and families who are food insecure. Through a network of more than 500 partner agencies, the Foodbank distributed 25 million pounds of food in 2012. For more information, visit www.stlfoodbank.org.
