July 23, 2013 - PRLog -- ExecutiveGov unveiled a number of timely and important news items this week geared toward the government and government contracting executive.

Two of the most vital stories the website published included a story about Martin Demsey, Joint Chiefs chairman on the possible outcomes of a U.S. military intervention in Syria and Jonathan Greenert on the Navy's recent cuts due to budget issues.

Congress recently approved the sending of weapons and supplies to rebel forces in Syria and Dempsey sent a letter to lawmakers advising them that an action like that could cost American taxpayer billions of dollars.

The letter comes after Senators Carl Levin and John McCain asked the joint chiefs chairman to provide various scenarios where the U.S. military could get involved in the conflict.

He added that if the U.S. were to setup a no-fly zone around the country, it could cost up to $1 billion per month and could result in the loss of U.S. planes.

Greenert spoke about budget cuts to the U.S. Navy in another ExecutiveGov article, specifically what changes would come about as a result.

The Admiral said the service branch would have to lessen its number of ships to 286 and reduce its crisis response capabilities.

Greenert added that the Navy intends to balance training reductions by shifting funds between accounts in partnership with Congress and the Pentagon.
