NJVVMF to Host Presentation "Modern Vietnam: A Fulbright Scholar’s Perspective”

HOLMDEL, N.J. - July 22, 2013 - PRLog -- On Saturday, July 27th, 2013 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation (NJVVMF) will host “Modern Vietnam: A Fulbright Scholar’s Perspective” presented by Melissa Genovese. During the afternoon, Genovese will share her experiences as a Fulbright Scholar in Vietnam at the NJVVMF’s Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center located at 1 Memorial Lane, Holmdel, NJ (Garden State Parkway Exit 116 on the grounds of the PNC Bank Arts Center). The Museum celebrates its 15th Anniversary in 2013 and invites the public to explore its exhibits and adjacent Memorial in honor of the 1,562 soldiers from New Jersey who were killed or listed as missing during the Vietnam War.

“Modern Vietnam: A Fulbright Scholar’s Perspective” offers a civilian’s perspectives on modern Vietnam. Motorbikes, development, laughing and peace; Vietnam has come a long wall since the fall of Saigon in 1975. From August 2011 through July 2012, Genovese lived and worked in Nam Dinh, Vietnam, teaching English at Nam Dinh University of Technology Education. During this time, she was able to experience and learn about present day Vietnam and its fast paced movement towards modernization.

Genovese, a recipient of a Fulbright award to Vietnam in 2011, grew up in Howell, New Jersey. She received her bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education from Rowan University in 2010. Since returning home from Vietnam in 2012, she has made a mission of sharing her experiences in hopes of creating a better understanding of and future for the two countries.
