GREENVILLE, S.C. - July 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America held a dedication ceremony Saturday, July 13, 2013 to celebrate the opening of The Randy Scott Memorial Shooting Range at Camp Barstow, the South Carolina camp where Scouts enjoy summer on over 300 acres along the banks of Lake Murray.

The shooting range is named in honor of Randy Scott, founder of Scott and Company CPAs, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in January 2012.  Mr. Scott’s record of service to Scouting included membership on the Indian Waters Council’s Executive Board and service in numerous officer roles, including Council President.  As President, he eliminated $350,000 in operating debt and raised more than $1 million in cash and gifts in-kind for the Council’s capital campaign.

“Randy Scott recognized and believed in the mission of the Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America to provide quality youth programs designed to strengthen character, develop good citizenship, and promote physical fitness,” said Doug Stone, Scout Executive for Indian Waters Council.  “Realizing his vision of opening this shooting range at Camp Barstow is a happy day for all of us who knew, loved and appreciated him so much.”

Funding for the shooting range came from community contributions made in Mr. Scott’s honor after his passing, and from a matching contribution by Scott and Company CPAs, the firm he founded.  The firm operates offices in Columbia and Greenville, and provides audit and assurance, tax and a range of consulting services to clients across the Southeast and internationally.

“Randy was a charismatic and visionary leader of both our firm and of our community for many years, and we certainly miss him and his many contributions,” added Don Mobley, managing member of Scott and Company’s Columbia office.  “He believed strongly in giving back and helping others, and we are proud that Camp Barstow’s shooting range will bear his name in perpetuity as a visible symbol of his contributions to Scouting and his belief in the inherent goodness of young people everywhere.”

The shooting range was officially opened with comments from Indian Waters Council executive Doug Stone and Scott family members, followed by a ceremonial “first shot” by members of the Scott family.

Boy Scouts of America prepares young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of Scout Oath and Law.  The Indian Waters Council provides Scouting programs in the Midlands of South Carolina.  More than 6,600 young men currently benefit from involvement in Scouting as part of the Indian Waters Council.
