Attero launches Clean E-India RWA E-waste Collection Drives in Mayur Vihar

MAYUR VIHAR, India - July 22, 2013 - PRLog -- New Delhi, July 22, 2013: Attero, India’s largest electronic asset management company has launched yet another RWA E-waste Collection Drive and Awareness Program in Dronacharya, Medha, OCS and UNESCO Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase I locality of New Delhi on July 20, 2013. The two day e-waste collection event was organized by Attero as part of the Clean E-India initiative. This RWA E-waste Collection Drive aims to caution the public about the hazards of e-waste and promote eco-friendly recycling.

The RWA E-waste Collection Drive was launched following the overwhelming success witnessed during the previous e-waste collection drives organized by Attero in the Delhi NCR region. This RWA e-waste collection event was the 42^nd E-waste Collection Drive organized by Attero and the 31^st in Delhi and aims to reach out to consumers directly and offer them an eco-friendly solution for disposing their old and broken down electronics. The two day event at the Dronacharya, Medha, OCS and UNESCO Apartments targeted over 3,500 residents. As part of the awareness program, residents were informed about what e-waste consists of, the various hazardous toxins in e-waste and the necessity of environmentally responsible disposal of e-waste. Following the awareness program, residents were encouraged to drop off their old broken down electronics and gadgets in Attero’s e-waste collection boxes placed at various locations in the four residential societies. The e-waste collected during the drive will be sent to Attero’s state of the art recycling facility for environmentally safe and responsible recycling. Attero has established a pan India reverse logistics network spread over 25 states, with bulk collection facilities from over 500 cities to enable efficient collection of e-waste from various locations across the country.

This e-waste collection event was launched under the Clean E-India Initiative banner. Besides organizing e-waste collection events in residential societies, Attero also organizes these collection drives in corporate organizations, schools and other institutions, as part of the Clean E-India Initiative. The Clean E-India Initiative is the result of a partnership between the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a World Bank entity, and Attero. The initiative aims to raise awareness about e-waste and establish an effective take back model for e-waste collection, by bringing together and working with all stakeholders involved in the electronics supply chain. As more and more consumers participate in these e-waste collection events it will bring in huge network benefits as each new consumer joining the network brings incremental value to all other consumers who are part of the network because more OEMs join in. Attero has already tied up with over 21 of the top OEMs including Samsung, Wipro, HCL and Voltas to ensure environment-friendly e-waste management.

A NASA recognized technology innovator, Attero has been a pioneer in developing eco-friendly technologies for managing e-waste more efficiently. Attero has already developed a patent pending eco-friendly technique for recycling e-waste and extracting valuable resources like precious and rare earth metals from e-waste. Developed at Attero’s state of the art R&D lab, this technology enables Attero to set up e-waste recycling facilities at a very low cost of $2 million, with a viable minimum operating capacity of 2000 tonnes annually. Such e-waste recycling setups offer a feasible solution for e-waste management, particularly in emerging economies, where most of the world’s e-waste ends up. In comparison, traditional smelting facilities, which extract metals from e-waste and perform e-waste recycling as a secondary function, require $100 million to set up and have a viable minimum operating capacity of 100,000 tonnes annually. Currently, there are five organizations with such metal extraction facilities, namely Umicore (Belgium), Norando (Canada), Aurubis (Germany), LS (Korea) and Dowa (Japan). These facilities primarily cater to developing nations, leaving out the world’s emerging economies, which is under more pressure from e-waste. Attero’s e-waste recycling solution allows for a more eco-friendly, efficient and viable solution for e-waste management, especially for emerging economies, as opposed to establishing $100 million facilities. Powered by its patent pending technology, Attero aims to establish distributed low capex, low capacity, non hazardous e-waste recycling facilities for managing e-waste in an eco-friendly manner.
