Follow on Google News | Perfect Performance for Plymouth Martial Arts Team at SWFC 7Plymouth-based mixed martial art team, from Master St' James Black Belt Academy, had a near perfect evening at SWFC 7. All three of their fighters won, including one winning the Featherweight K-1 Kickboxing title, in Torquay on Sunday 14th July 2013.
The South West Fighting Championships, better known as SWFC, is the biggest Mixed Martial Arts promotion in the South West and attracts fighters from all around the country to compete in MMA, Kickboxing, and boxing bouts. The team from Master St'James Black Belt Academy, comprised three members. All of them were well prepared having done an 8 week training camp specifically for this event. Philip Kite, 32 and a resident of Torpoint, fought Aiden Lacey in the lightweight -70kg MMA division. After a close first round Phil dominated the second and third to win via unanimous decision. Liam Fulford fought Brad Evans in a featherweight (-65.9kg) MMA category and won via triangle choke in round three. Louis Aitken, from Plymouth, fought Toby Bindon for the -64kg K-1 title. K-1 is a style that incorporates techniques from Boxing, Kickboxing and Muay Thai. This was a very exciting fight with both fighters exchanging flurries of kicks and punches. Ultimately, Louis dominated the fight with a great display of footwork and movement, and won via unanimous decision. Louis, who is only eighteen, has just qualified for to represent Team GB at the WAKO World Championships in September. Head Coach of Master St' James Black Belt Academy, Tom Barlow, said of the fighters "We are very proud of how all the guys fought, win or lose. They all acted like true professionals inside and out of the cage. We will now go back to train and fix any of the mistakes they made, in preparation for their next contests."
