Leonard Dozier's New Single "Rock" Has Hit Written All Over It It

The actor/singer/songwriter/producer returns to the music scene with a song as personal for him as he's ever written. It's an uplifting relationship anthem with a catchy groove and hook and some of the finest vocals of Leonard's career.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - July 21, 2013 - PRLog -- In recent years, the music industry has seen R&B fade into the background as hip-hop and the new  genres of "hip-hop/r&b" or "club pop" (disguised as R&B) has catapulted to the mainstream. Yet, R&B still lives and it's grown and sexy men like Dozier continue to press forward in spite of trends. Music is very cyclical and already, if you are astute enough, you can see the remnants of a music industry dominated by R&B again.

With his new single "Rock," Leonard Dozier gives us classic R&B that sounds new and fresh. Producer Michael Downing goes heavy on the bottom and light and rhythmic on the top with just an acoustic guitar giving the music a summertime- friendly feel. It's the kind of track that is perfect for blasting on the highway, windows and sunroof open. More importantly, it's message goes against the core of today's messages about relationships and the notion that love is simply based on feelings. Insteead, the song reminds us that love is about choice and commitment and is rooted in the very love God gives us. As such, the song is the antithesis of the modern relationship movement but as Dozier says, "that's good because we need to understand the real power of love on a personal and relational level." Classic R&B has always's been Dozier's staple but this is a new Dozier, both vocally and stylistically. The bass-baritone goes deep into his upper range and delivers a passion filled, soaring performance and his delivery  of "are you ready baby" following the song's vamp hits the soul, just as true R&B vocals should. The passion is there because the song is deeply personal for Dozier. "2013 has been a challenging year for me personally. When you undergo a possible near divorce after nearly 10 years it's tough and the subsequent maze I journeyed through was taxing emotionally. The romantic and idealist in me just wants every bit of what I profess in this song." Get a sneak preview of the song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp...

This is the first single from his upcoming CD "Soul of a Pisces" (and having known Leonard for nearly 15 years) this is truly representative title. His last CD, 2011's "Vitamin L" was a solid CD with three songs getting some form of radio airplay (both online and traditional). Yet, there is a different mastery on display with "Rock," an evolution of the man and the artist, a confident display of the career that he has amassed which includes a very accomplished acting and voice acting career. His perfomance is the film "Hylo" is powerfully convincing and is the perfect vehicle for a showcase of the kind of leading man not that he can but undoubtedly will be. Recently, "Turning Point," a film in which he co-stars with Ernie Hudson, Todd Bridges, Cynda Williams and a host of international stars received eight Nollywood African Film Critic Awards and the buzz is that he will likely be nominated for a Broadway World award for best actor for his recent portrayal of Herald Loomis in August Wilson's "Joe Turner's Come and Gone." To top it off, audiences worldwide will get to hear his voice alongside those of Lea Michele, Dan Aykroyd, Hugh Dancy, Kelsey Grammar, Jim Belushi and Bernadette Peters in the Hollywood animated film "Legends of Oz" next May.

When I interviewed Dozier two years ago, he was largely self-contained. The growth in his career is evident by both the manager and agency that represents him. "I am very fortunate to have the manager I have and the agency. It's all by God's design," he states.

While the new CD has no official release date as of yet, the single will be available on Itunes and other online music media sites on August 13th. "Unlike Viatamin L, which I really didn't promote a lot, we will promote the new single and new CD in spite of my schedule," he laughs. Oh, that laugh! It's a trademark laugh that begins with that trademark smile. Both from a trademark human being whom I'm quite proud to know.

While he looks to build a rock-solid relationship, one thing he has built is a rock-solid career and more is certain to come from the, now, ADDY Award winner.

Rock on Leonard, rock on!
