The Top Ten 72 Hour Shootout Films of 2013 Premier on July 27!

The winning films of the 2013 72 Hour Shootout, selected by judges including David Henry Hwang, ABC's Marci Phillips, and FOX Japan's Dan Smith, premier on July 27th as part of the Asian American International Film Festival in New York City.

NEW YORK - July 20, 2013 - PRLog -- The Asian American Film Lab, in conjunction with Asian CineVision, has announced the world premier of the top ten films of the 2013 72 Hour Shootout.  The premier will occur as a special event in the Asian American International Film Festival in New York City.  The films consist of bold and fascinating 5 minute original short films ranging from comedy to drama and based upon the theme, "A Guest in My Own Country."  

The screening will take place on July 27, 2013, at 1:00 pm, at the Asian American International Film Festival Anthology Film Archives Courthouse Theatre, 32 Second Avenue, New York, NY.  Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.showclix.com/event/3762418/listing.

This year, the audience will be invited to vote for their favorite film during and after the screening via Twitter @asamfilmlab.org using #72HrSO.  The film winning the Audience Choice Award will be presented with a special award at the Awards Ceremony following the screening, along with an After Party celebrating all of the filmmakers, which will take place at 6pm the same day at the Official Shootout Party Venue, The White Rabbit, located at 145 E. Houston Street, New York, New York.

The films were selected by a panel of judges including playwright David Henry Hwang, ABC's Marci Phillips, FOX Japan's Dan Smith, Don Buchwald & Associates David Elliott, entertainer Cindy Cheung, novelist Ed Lin, writer/director NaRhee Ahn, and director Nicole Kassell.  This year's Shootout was run by Asian American Film Lab President Jennifer Betit Yen and 72 Hour Shootout Coordinator David Dennis.  Newcomer Joanna Shen is the official editor of the film screening audiences will enjoy on July 27th.  Sponsors include AAARI-CUNY, Asian American Arts Alliance, Asian CineVision, AsianinNY, Bacardi, Baked by Melissa, Equinox, Executive Wear NY, Late Cambrian, MayDay Radio, MyJennyBook, Museum of Chinese in America, The Korea Society, The White Rabbit, Tu-Na House, and Variance Films, among others.

About The Asian American Film Lab

The Asian American Film Lab (Film Lab) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the promotion and support of gender and ethnic diversity in film and television through free monthly educational and outreach programming and the acclaimed annual 72 Hour Shootout filmmaking competition (www.asianamericanfilmlab.org).  This annual competition has inspired hundreds of filmmakers by helping nascent talent take brave steps towards a filmmaking career. The Film Lab is run under the direction of President Jennifer Betit Yen and the 2013 Shootout will be coordinated by David Dennis, an animator and filmmaker whose first 35MM short film, NIKDO, was shot with the support of Panavision and Barrandov Studios.  David is a graduate of NYU.  Acting and Advisory Board members include Aaron Woolfolk, Eric Lin, Bea Soong, John Woo, Erik Lu, and James Kyson.
