CARLSBAD, Calif. - July 19, 2013 - PRLog -- Summary

With its size and seemingly carefree reputation thanks to being the home to many of Hollywood’s A-list stars, one might be lead to assume that the representation that California has regarding marriage in reality TV shows would play over into the real world, but this isn’t necessarily the case.

Top Divorce rates in The United States

One state that does live up to its reputation of “quickie” marriages is Nevada.  With Las Vegas being home to drive-through marriages, many would assume that Sin City alone would provide enough divorces to up the rate for the entire state, and they would be right.  Currently Nevada leads the nation in divorce rate according to the latest National Vital Statistics Report and U.S. Census.  Rounding out the top five with percentages all over 0.5% include Arkansas, Wyoming, Idaho and West Virginia.

California not in the Top 10

While it is important to recognize California for not being in the top 10 for overall divorce rates in the United States, it is also important to consider the factors that might play a role in this statistic.  As is the case in the United States in general, overall divorce rates have been steadily decreasing.  What most people that initially see this statistic don’t realize, however, is that marriage rates are also on the decline.  As the national perspective on marriage and divorce changes, the way that the country digests statistics gathered on a once traditional practice may also be taken with less gravity.
