Pursuit of Truth:  Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse Is Featured as an Official Selection of the NYC Chain Film Festival 2013

New York, NY July 18, 2013 – Pursuit of Truth film documentary (http://www.pursuitoftruthfilm.com), a film about adult survivors of child sexual abuse seeking justice, has been named as an official selection of the NYC Chain Film Festival this year.

The mission of the Chain NYC Film Festival is to encourage the development of quality independent cinema of personal stories, original ideas and new work. The film project grew out of one mother's desperate fight to support her adult son's quest for justice against the individual who abused him as a child.  Filmmaker and Executive Producer Valerie Gibson said, “It is a great honor to be selected as a feature at the NYC Chain Film Festival. Our film’s purpose is toinitiate the process of exposure and education as to the ways in which the legal process re-traumatizes survivors by invading their rights to privacy and subjecting them to inherently unfair practices.  Creating this film has been a work of passion and we hope it contributes to efforts to reform the legal system’s handling of survivors’ cases.”  

About the Film:

 The filmmakers concluded that a documentary was the most effective means to expose the justice system’s fundamental flaws and initiate the process of education and reform. The essence of the film centers around the plight of survivors seeking justice against their abusers and is told in large part from the survivors' perspectives.  
The survivors cross all demographics and each confronted numerous obstacles in attempting to hold their perpetrators accountable under the law. Some of them  were successful in the end, while others did not fare as well. Intermingled with the survivors' stories, the film presents experts in the various fields relating to the litigation of survivors' cases -- a retired judge, prosecutors, police officials, attorneys, trauma psychologists, and activists/advocates. The experts' discussions raise serious questions about police investigative procedures, prosecutorial charging decisions, defense attorney tactics, and judicial responses to survivors' claims. The film provides a framework to address those questions and thereby improve the quality and quantity of justice for survivors who seek to lawfully pursue their own truth.
