Glasgow, UK, July 2013 – Andy Murray will be forever Dunblane, but he is the world’s star now, not just Scotland’s. The whole 1Call Direct team were on the edge of their seats watching Murray in the Wimbledon final.

Murray’s Wimbledon victory this month was watched by a peak of 17.3 million viewers, the BBC said. The figure was up on last year’s final, which was watched by a peak of 17 million when Murray lost Roger Federer. Murray’s win has become the highest-rated TV programme of the year so far, beating the live final of Britain’s Got Talent last month, when Simon Cowell was pelted with eggs.

“Yeah, the magnitude of what happened is still surreal to me and it’s going to take a few days to get my ahead around it, to understand that I won Wimbledon,” said Murray.

Murray is the first Briton to win the Wimbledon men's singles title since Fred Perry in 1936.

After his heartfelt, weepy runner's up speech at Wimbledon last year his reputation with his detractors was rehabilitated. People find his life story inspiring: As a child, he lived through the 1996 massacre of 16 boys and girls at his school in Dunblane, by a gunman who then committed suicide.

All of Dunblane was watching last week and many of its residents jammed into a local sports club to watch the match with Murray's grandparents. After the victory, there was an impromptu, scraggly parade led by a bagpiper.

"Last year was one of the toughest moments of my career, so to manage to win the tournament today... it was unbelievable," Murray said.

Murray won in three straight nail biting sets against Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and 1Call Direct believe it was the most thrilling television they have seen all year.
