Velvet Ice Cream creates Maple Bacon Ice Cream for Ohio State Fair
Velvet Ice Cream today announced it has launched a new flavor: Maple Bacon Ice Cream. This quirky new flavor is available exclusively at the Ohio State Fair, which opens July 24 and runs through August 4 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.
“From our Ohio-grown food in the Taste of Ohio Café to the world-famous butter cow, our state’s agricultural traditions are a big part of the Ohio State Fair and its history,” said Ohio Expo Center and Ohio State Fair General Manager Virgil Strickler. “We are excited that Velvet Ice Cream has stepped up to pay homage to that heritage with its new Maple Bacon Ice Cream.”
Velvet’s Maple Bacon Ice Cream, along with its much more traditional ice cream flavors of chocolate and vanilla, are available via Cox Concessions in the Ohio State Fair Dairy Products Building. Fairgoers can download the free Mobile Fair Food Finder app for Android or iPhone operating systems; or they can text ”FoodFind”
Velvet Ice Cream is located in Utica, Ohio, situated on the perfect combination of wooded countryside and rolling, pastoral farmland. A family-owned and operated business for nearly 100 years, Joseph Dager founded Velvet Ice Cream in 1914 and four generations of Dagers have since run the company. Velvet produces more than 5 million gallons of ice cream every year from its headquarters on the 25-acre grounds of Ye Olde Mill. Ye Olde Mill also houses an ice cream and milling museum, a restaurant, playground, picnic area and catch-and-release fish pond. Named by Frommer's as one of America’s 10 Best Ice Cream Factory Tours, Velvet's Ye Olde Mill welcomes 150,000 visitors each year for tours, tastings and events. The annual Ice Cream Festival (May 24-26, 2013), group tour experiences and school learning field trips are among the many draws to Ye Olde Mill, which is open to the public May 1-Oct. 31.
OHIO STATE FAIR MEDIA POLICY: Working members of the media are asked to enter the grounds through the Media Center located on 11th Avenue, just west of the OHIO gate. Media parking is available at the trailer, as are phones and a computer line. Media are asked to review the on-site guidelines and are encouraged to fax a list of staff members covering the Fair to the Ohio State Fair Public Relations at 614-644-4501
