MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - July 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Hyundai was recently recognized with Concept Vehicle of the Year awards. The Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis concept, BMW i8 Spyder, and the Ford Atlas took home the top honor in their respective categories. A total of 23 concept cars were involved in the selection process and were introduced at this year’s Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, and New York auto shows. More than two dozen journalists took part in selecting the winners.

The HCD-14 Genesis was named the winner of the Concept Car category, introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. The Hyundai sedan was one of two concept cars from Hyundai named as finalists for the award, joining the Hyundai Veloster C3 Roll Top. This was the fourth competition in which a Hyundai vehicle was a finalist and the second time as winner.

Juror Chris Poole thought that the HCD-14 Genesis is one of the best vehicles to come out of Hyundai’s California Design center. Poole added that the styling reminded him of early Ferraris. Bob Kroupa explained that the fastback coupe design, along with the rear hinged back doors, “add to the WOW factor.”

Driver safety technology is a major feature that separates the Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis concept car from its competition. A new interface system was developed to better allow drivers to keep his or her eyes on the road. Navigation, audio, infotainment, and smartphone connectivity features can all be selected using state-of-the-art eye-tracking recognition. This technology helps to limit driving distractions and allow the driver to stay focused on the road.

The BMW i8 Spyder won in the Production Preview Vehicle category, defeating the Acura NSX, Subaru WRX STI, and Tesla Model X. The Ford Atlas was recognized as the top vehicle in the Concept Truck category, selected over the Kia Cross GT, Nissan Resonance, and Volkswagen Cross Blue.
