Who Are You Letting in Your Home?

Service professionals should be background checked & have good reviews.

July 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Do you need a repair or any service for your home? Do you know the company you're calling and allowing into your home? Does "Bob" the technician have a criminal background that you should know about before you let him in your house? Is he insured or licensed in his trade?

These are questions you should be asking whenever you allow someone to come into your home says Dan Bradbury, President of Viking Pest Control. It is important to know that any company you have in to your home for a water leak repair, or a extermination service, is performing background checks for all their employees. It's also important to have a company that is insured and licensed to perform any given work.

"Unfortunately people don't always ask the right questions, or even think to ask about the person entering their home," says Dan Bradbury. "You should know who is coming to your home, if the company does background checks, if they're insured, and if the service staff that will do the work is licensed to perform any work at your house."

When interviewing service pro's customers should ask the following questions:

Are you insured? This means adequate liability insurance.
Do you carry worker’s compensation insurance? (Find out what your state requirements are) A good service will cover workers with WC even if they fall under the states minimum requirements.
Will employees or independent contractors work at my home?
What does your pre-employment screening consist of? Do you perform criminal background checks on all employees?
Who will be working at my house? One person? A team?
How do you train your employees, do you have a formal training program?
Do you provide a service guarantee with your services?
Make sure all expectations are clear and up front. Ask about any service or task that you expect to be performed that is not mentioned or listed by the owner/ manager.

It is wise to ask for other customer reviews, or references prior to hiring someone to work at your house. You can never be too safe!
