US Tele-Medicine Provides Matching Funds for Rural Schools Grants

Program will allow rural school districts across the USA, an opportunity to obtain a $500,000 Distant Learning and Telehealth Grant, offered by the USDA.

PALM DESERT, Calif. - July 12, 2013 - PRLog -- US Tele-Medicine, a leader in telehealth services announced today a Matching Funds Program which will provide rural school districts across the USA, an opportunity to obtain a $500,000 Distant Learning and Telehealth Grant, offered by the US Department of Agriculture.

“Grants are often a mainstay for rural school districts across the country as most are short of funds. The difficulty is that very often grants require the school district to provide some percentage of matching monies,” said Jacques von Speyer, CEO of US Tele-Medicine. “That puts a hold on many grant opportunities and that’s why we are announcing our Matching Funds Programs.”

The Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Program provides both educational and healthcare opportunities in rural communities through grants that finance advanced telecommunications technologies. The focus is on using the unique capabilities of telecommunications to connect rural areas to each other and to the world, thus overcoming the effects of remoteness and low population density. DLT, which began in 1993, has funded more than 1,400 projects totaling $512 million.

Projects funded by these grants have allowed rural residents to benefit from healthcare services provided to rural clinics and hospitals through broadband infrastructure.

“Our company believes rural school children and their teachers should be allowed access to healthcare without having to travel great distances, or be limited to the quality or type of healthcare available to them,” said von Speyer, “but money has always been the consideration. This opportunity provided by Secretary Tom Vilsack should be embraced by all rural school districts and it can now be a reality by taking advantage of our Matching Funds Program.”
